Here are a few ways you can stand out from your competition.

Overall Presentation

Remember that you are a brand, and everything you submit for a job should represent you personally. Take special care to craft a customized cover letter and resume to match each job. You should also focus on your social media presence to ensure that you are representing yourself professionally on all platforms where potential employers can find your information.

Interview Preparation

Before an interview, prepare fully. This starts with research on the company, including websites and public information such as news stories or social media. You should also prepare for the interview questions, including some of the most commonly asked questions. Know your resume so you can talk about anything that comes up. Also, plan to have a few questions of your own about the job and the environment. If you can’t think of anything, try asking, “What do you like most about working here?”

Shine in Any Interaction

Remember that even though you’re meeting with HR, the hiring manager, or a supervisor, every interaction you have will matter. That means if you talk to the front desk receptionist when you arrive, stay professional and friendly. They will report back to the decision-maker if they had a good or bad experience with candidates who have arrived. If you’re interviewing virtually, plan to be sure you’re not interrupted and that your conversation can stay professional.

Plan Your References

When a company is interested, they will ask you for a list of references. You should be ready for this step. Talk to people from your past who will be willing to talk to potential employers about you as a professional. Make sure to give them a heads up that they could be contacted. Provide current, up-to-date contact information, including email addresses and phone numbers. And only provide references for people who will talk about your strengths as an employee.

Basketball! I was fortunate enough to play college basketball all 4 years and in 2013 we won the NCAA DII National Championship.

Orange! Yes, it is one of Nextaff’s main colors but it was my favorite before coming to Nextaff. In the franchising world, I’m known as “Orange pants guy”.
